Africa Cup of Nations 2019 Final

By Chris Dinsdale

July 19, 2019 - Senegal and Algeria meet in the final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, played at the Cairo International Stadium, Cairo, Egypt.

Senegal, with joint-top goalscorer Sadio Mane, are aiming for a first ever title after finishing as finalists in 2002. The Lions recovered from a group stage defeat to Algeria to seal a place in the knock-out stages, before beating Uganda, Benin and Tunisia to secure a place in the showpiece final.

Algeria, captained by Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez, are hoping to capture their second Africa Cup of Nations title, and first since 1980. A superb Mahrez free-kick in added time of their semi-final against Nigeria confirmed a third final appearance.

A total of 14 nations have triumphed since the first Africa Cup of Nations in 1957, including 2017 winners Cameroon (5-times) and Ghana (4-times).
