Williams and Halep set for Wimbledon battle
July 13, 2019 -- The ladies’ final between Serena Williams and Simona Halep at the Wimbledon Championships, the third Grand Slam of the season, takes place in London, England.
Wimbledon legend Serena Williams would equal Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24 Grand Slam titles with victory over Simona Halep. The American, who beat unseeded Barbora Strycova in the semi-finals, would also close in on the record nine titles by Martina Navratilova if she lifted the Venus Rosewater Dish on the Centre Court grass.
Simona Halep is aiming for a second major title in her fifth showpiece final, after winning her maiden Grand Slam title at Roland Garros in 2018. The Romanian beat Elina Svitolina in the final four to secure her first Wimbledon final, against an opponent she has only beaten once in ten matches.
