U.S. considering full range of options on Iran
June 17, 2019 - Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Sunday that the United States is "considering a full range of options" regarding escalating tensions with Iran, but emphasised international diplomacy over any possible new U.S. military response.
Despite hard-line factions in both Iran and the United States that would like to pursue confrontation, both countries will remain keen to avoid a major war with each other, according to U.S.-based intelligence firm Stratfor
Nevertheless, the risk of miscalculation and escalation will remain high, particularly given Iran's force dispositions and conflict strategy, as both countries ramp up their military preparations.
A military confrontation between the U.S. and Iran would have regional and global economic and energy consequences.
