Russia’s prototype stealth drone to make its first flight
June 4, 2019 - Russia’s prototype stealth drone is due to make its maiden flight in July or August. The Sukhoi S-70 Okhotnik (Hunter) will be fully autonomous and follow a pre-programmed flight path, according to Russian news agency TASS.
The S-70 uses a flat “flying wing” design similar in shape to the U.S. Air Force's B-2 stealth bomber, and is reportedly designed to perform reconnaissance and strike missions.
The first flight, due to take place at Sukhoi’s Novosibirsk aviation plant, could signal the start of a long development process potentially ending with the Russian air force operating fighter-style stealth drones, according to U.S.-based journal The National Interest.
