By Jordi Bou

May 30, 2019 - Several South Korean tourists have died and many more are missing after a boat capsized on the Danube river in Hungary's capital, Budapest.

The boat was carrying 33 South Korean passengers and two Hungarian crewmembers when it collided with a larger cruise boat travelling in the same direction during a nighttime tour on Wednesday night.

Seven people were confirmed as dead and 21 others are missing. Seven people were rescued.

The vessel, called Hableany (meaning: mermaid) was a 27-metre, double-decker river cruise boat with a 150-horsepower engine and could hold up to 60 people, its owner, Panorama Deck Ltd., told state media.

A massive rescue effort continues on a river swollen by heavy rainfall.
