June 7, 2019 - July 7, 2019 - The FIFA Women’s World Cup takes place in France, with 24 teams competing to be crowned World Champions. The 2019 tournament marks the first showpiece since a remarkable rise in popularity in the women’s game, with increased participation numbers and steady growth of supporter bases.

Host nation France will open the tournament against South Korea in Paris on June 7. Reigning champions United States begin their campaign against Thailand, while England and Scotland kick off Group D -- which also includes 2015 finalists Japan -- in a highly anticipated contest.

Since the first Women’s World Cup in 1991, there have have been seven tournaments; the United States is aiming to lift the trophy for a record-extending fourth time in France after their triumph in 2015. Three other nations have been crowned World Champions: Germany (2003, 2007), Norway (1995) and Japan (2011).

A total of 52 matches will be played at 9 venues over four weeks, with the final taking place at Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon on July 7.
