IS leader al-Baghdadi resurfaces

By Jordi Bou

April 30, 2019 - A first video appearance in five years by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of Islamic State and the world’s most wanted man, has ended speculation that he was killed some years ago.

In the video, Baghdadi claimed the Easter Day bombings in Sri Lanka which killed over 250 people were “part of the revenge” that awaits the West.

With a $25 million U.S. bounty on his head, al-Baghdadi is the world’s most wanted man.

The US-led anti-Isis coalition has warned that while IS is weakened it still poses a potent threat, and pockets of its fighters are able to carry out terrorist attacks in Iraq and Syria. There are IS cells in Libya and the UN has said they are also present in Iran.
