TERRORISM

So-called Islamic State still a threat in many countries

By Mike Tyler

April 26, 2019 - After the defeat of the “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria, the so-called Islamic State group still poses a security threat in many countries.

Just one month after being ejected from its last remaining territory in Syria, so-called IS seems far from defeated, claiming responsibility for coordinated bomb attacks on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan officials have blamed two domestic Islamist groups with suspected ties to IS for the Easter Sunday attacks which killed at least 250 people.
