Europa League Semi-final, 1st leg, May 2

By Chris Dinsdale

May 2, 2019 - Europa League Semi-final first leg matches, including match-ups between Eintracht Frankfurt and Chelsea at the Commerzbank-Arena, and Arsenal against Valencia at the Emirates Stadium. The second leg for these matches takes place on May 9.

Arsenal host Valencia in a season-defining game for Unai Emery’s team. Recent poor form in the English Premier League -- including defeats to Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers -- has cost the team their grip on fourth spot in the table that would secure a Champions League place next season. The Gunners’ European home form has faired better, with four wins in their last five games, as the North Londoners look to qualify for their first European final since 2006.

The 2018-2019 UEFA Europa League is the 48th season of Europe’s secondary club football tournament. The final will be played at the Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 29, 2019.

The winners automatically qualify for the 2019-20 Champions League group stage, and earn the right to play against the winners of the 2018-2019 Champions League in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup.

Clubs qualify for the competition based on their performance in their national league and cup competitions.
