ROYALTY
Britain’s royal line of succession
September 10, 2022 - Charles III has been proclaimed as Britain’s new monarch during an historic ceremony at St James's Palace, London. Charles became king immediately following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, but a meeting of the Accession Council has formally confirmed his role.
Making his personal declaration, Charles said: “In carrying out the heavy task that has been laid upon me, and to which I now dedicate what remains to me of my life, I pray for the guidance and help of Almighty God.”
It is the first time the proceedings have been televised.
Charles is king and head of state of the United Kingdom and 14 other realms including Australia, Canada, Jamaica, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
