Stanley Cup play-offs 2019

By Chris Dinsdale

April 10, 2019 - The Stanley Cup playoffs, the climax of North America’s National Hockey League (NHL) ice hockey season, get underway.

The Washington Capitals are back in the play-offs as Metropolitan Division champions, aiming to claim successive titles after winning their first Stanley Cup in 2018 where they beat the Vegas Golden Knights. The Capitals are set to face tough competition from Tampa Bay Lightning, regular season champions of the Eastern Conference and winners of the Presidents’ Trophy.

Eight teams from each of the Eastern and Western conferences qualify for the playoffs based on points totals in the regular season. The playoffs consist of four rounds of best-of-seven series, the last of which is the Stanley Cup Finals, contested by the two conference champions.

Play-off fixtures:
Nashville Predators v Dallas Stars
Winnipeg Jets v St. Louis Blues
Calgary Flames v Colorado Avalanche
San Jose Sharks v Vegas Golden Knights
Tampa Bay Lightning v Columbus Blue Jackets
Boston Bruins v Toronto Maple Leafs
Washington Capitals v Carolina Hurricanes
New York Islanders v Pittsburgh Penguins
