Boston Marathon 2019

April 15, 2019 - The 123rd Boston Marathon takes place, with over 30,000 runners expected to participate. Reigning champions Yuki Kawauchi of Japan and Desiree Linden of the United States lead the men’s and women’s fields respectively in the latest edition of the world’s oldest annual marathon.

The Boston Marathon started in 1897 with 15 runners. It is held annually on Patriots’ Day, which commemorates the Battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775 at the start of the American War of Independence from Great Britain.

Boston is the second of the six World Marathon Majors of 2019. The full list is:
