August 25, 2020 - September 6, 2020 - The 2020 summer Paralympic Games, the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, take place in Tokyo, Japan.

In Japan, the chequered pattern became formally known as “ichimatsu moyo” in the Edo period (1603-1867), with the Paralympic emblem chequered design in the traditional Japanese colour of indigo blue.

It is intended to express a refined elegance and sophistication that exemplifies Japanese culture. Composed of three varieties of rectangular shapes, the design represents different countries, cultures and ways of thinking.
