MLB Opening Day fixtures
March 28, 2019 - The Major League Baseball (MLB) season, the oldest of the four major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada, begins. The traditional Opening Day of the MLB season, staged on the earliest date in Major League history, features all 30 teams for the second successive year.

A total of 30 teams play in the National League (NL) and American League (AL) -- 15 in each. Teams play 162 games over the season, which culminates in the World Series, a best-of-seven championship series between the top two teams which takes place in October.
The Boston Red Sox are the reigning World Series champions, having beaten the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018 to claim their ninth World Series title.
