HORSE RACING

Last 10 Gold Cup winners

By Chris Dinsdale

March 12, 2019 - The Cheltenham Festival, one of the most prestigious events in the world horse racing calendar, is held in Gloucestershire, England. This year’s festival will go ahead as normal despite a recent scare caused by an outbreak of equine flu that caused the lockdown of 174 racing stables across Britain.

The famous “Cheltenham roar”, referring to the vast amount of noise the crowd generates as the starter raises the tape for the first race, gets the festival underway.

Hundreds of millions of pounds and euros are bet over the four-day festival, which features many of the best British and Irish trained horses and is particularly popular with Irish visitors.

The winner of the 2019 Gold Cup will be presented with the original 1924 trophy, after Cheltenham Racecourse regained ownership last year after decades of being held in private ownership.
