Cheltenham Festival 2019
March 12-15, 2019 -- The Cheltenham Festival, one of the most prestigious events in the world horse racing calendar, is held in Gloucestershire, England. This year’s festival will go ahead as normal despite a recent scare caused by an outbreak of equine flu that caused the lockdown of 174 racing stables across Britain.
The four-day festival features many of the best British and Irish trained horses and is particularly popular with Irish visitors.
The climax of the week is the Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday, with other highlights being Tuesday’s Unibet Champion Hurdle, Wednesday’s Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase and the Sun Racing Stayers’ Hurdle on Thursday.
The winner of the 2019 Gold Cup will be presented with the original 1924 trophy, after Cheltenham Racecourse regained ownership last year after decades of being held in private ownership.
