Trump and Kim to meet in Vietnam for second summit

By Jordi Bou

February 27, 2019 - February 28, 2019 - U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un are to hold their second summit, raising hopes that the two sides can break their stalemate over denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

The meeting would be Trump’s second summit with Kim over the last year and the first time a U.S. president has twice met the leader of the authoritarian regime.

The two men held their first meeting in Singapore in June. Trump has been eager to hold a second summit in spite of a lack of concrete progress in persuading North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons programme.

Communist-ruled Vietnam, which has good relations with both the United States and North Korea, had been widely touted as the most likely venue for the meeting.
