Germany could reduce gas flows through Nord Stream 2 pipeline

By Mike Tyler

December 3, 2018 - Germany’s Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer has responded to Russia’s seizure of three Ukrainian ships and their crew off the coast of Crimea by calling for Berlin to cut gas flows through the planned Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

Kramp-Karrenbauer – frontrunner to replace Angela Merkel as leader of Germany’s biggest political party – has also said the EU and United States should consider barring entry to Russian ships originating from the Sea of Azov in response to the incident, according to a Reuters report.

The $11billion Nord Stream 2 project, led by Russia’s Gazprom, aims to double capacity of the existing Nord Stream pipeline from late 2019, bypassing traditional routes through Ukraine.
