Deontay Wilder meets Tyson Fury in heavyweight title fight

By Chris Dinsdale

December 1, 2018 - Undefeated WBC champion Deontay Wilder faces the returning Tyson Fury in defence of his title, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The victor will be handed the opportunity to seek a bout with British boxer Anthony Joshua -- the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO title-holder -- in 2019, to unify the heavyweight division for the first time since 1999.

In March, Deontay Wilder completed the eighth defence of his WBC title, defeating Cuba’s Luis Ortiz. Wider floored his opponent twice in round 10 after surviving a 7th round onslaught by Ortiz. The fight with Fury is widely accepted as the biggest of the American’s career.

Tyson Fury is also undefeated. The “Gypsy King” beat Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 to win the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO titles, but was later stripped of his belts due to substance abuse. Following a stint in rehab he made his comeback earlier this year and has since defeated both Sefer Seferi and Francesco Pianeta.
