Resignations create Brexit chaos

By Duncan Mil

November 15, 2018 - As a Remain campaigner, Prime Minister Theresa May promised to unite the country in the aftermath of the EU referendum. Now her top team is in chaos after a wave of ministerial resignations, as senior MPs ditch their support for her and her unpopular Chequers proposal.

Five Cabinet ministers including Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab and Work and Pensions Secretary Esther McVey resigned in protest at May’s Brexit divorce deal.

The high profile resignations came after Cabinet backed a draft Brexit agreement with Brussels in a stormy five-hour Cabinet meeting on Wednesday night. The latest exits followed several other resignations from senior ministers, including Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, his brother Jo and former Brexit Secretary David Davies.

The pound fell more than 1% against the dollar to $1.2798 and dropped more than 1% against the euro to €1.1313.
