White House departures -- Sessions “resigns” as attorney general

November 7, 2018 -- U.S. President Donald Trump has fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the latest in 29 White House departures since Trump came to power in 2017.

Trump had criticised his top law official for months, mainly over his refusal to oversee Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

In a resignation letter, Sessions made clear the decision to go was not his own: “Dear Mr President, at your request I am submitting my resignation,” he wrote.

Sessions recused himself -- voluntarily removed himself from the Mueller probe -- after Democrats accused him of failing to disclose contacts with the Russian ambassador during his Senate confirmation hearing. The attorney general later said he had forgotten about those meetings, which happened during the Trump election campaign.

21 days to go until NEW GRAPHIC NEWS - a new website for a new era.

28 years ago — April 2, 1991 — the original Graphic News launched using a precursor to today’s websites that used email technology. These enabled infographics to be delivered electronically around the world over telephone lines. What was possible was very limited - It took 10 minutes for a 100K file to download.

Since then delivery speeds and website technology have moved on. The new website will offer the best online experience possible now, adding many new features (and offering new opportunities for the future), but still enabling existing users to select and download infographics and enjoy the distinct brand of visual journalism that is Graphic News.

Over the coming days I will give further information. Please contact me if you have any questions. Fiona Roberts, froberts @ graphicnews.com
