Copa Libertadores semi-finals, 2nd leg
October 30-31, 2018 -- The Copa Libertadores, South America’s premier club competition, reaches the semi-final stage, with second leg matches taking place in Porto Alegre and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores feature two heavyweight contests between perennial rivals Argentina and Brazil, as Gremio take on River Plate, and Palmeiras clash with Boca Juniors.
Reigning champions Gremio hold a 1-0 advantage over River Plate from the first leg, and are bidding to win a fourth title following their victory over Argentina’s Lanus in the 2017 final. Six-time winners River Plate are targeting one more title to equal the all-time record held by Independiente.
Boca Juniors lead Palmeiras by two goals, with striker Dario
Benedetto scoring twice. The pair also met in the group stages, drawing in Sao Paulo, before the Brazilians inflicted Boca’s only defeat of the competition with a 3-0 victory in Buenos Aires.
Argentina (24) and Brazil (18) have won 42 of 58 Copa Libertadores titles collectively.
