Player to Manager
October 20, 2018 -- Monaco travel to Strasbourg in Thierry Henry’s first game since being appointed manager of Monaco. Henry left his position as assistant coach with the Belgian national team to return to Ligue 1, France’s premier football competition.
Former Arsenal and Barcelona star Thierry Henry is launching his managerial career at AS Monaco, 24 years after making his professional debut as a player there. The Ligue 1 team sacked coach Leonardo Jardim earlier this month, and are languishing in the relegation zone after only one win in all competitions this season.
Since winning the Ligue 1 trophy in 2016-17, Monaco have sold the majority of their title-winning stars -- including teenage World Cup sensation Kylian Mbappe -- for an estimated €560m.
Henry faces a tough start at “Les Monégasques” with contests against struggling Dijon and Reims, as well as a crucial double header with Club Brugge to retain their Champions League status.
