Europa League Day 2, Thursday Oct 4

By Chris Dinsdale

October 4, 2018 - The new Europa League season continues with the second round of matches in the group stages. The tournament culminates with the final at the Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 29, 2019.

Chelsea, Europa League winners in 2013, face Hungarian opposition Vidi FC at Stamford Bridge. The Blues, now managed by former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri, recorded an opening match victory over PAOK with a goal from Brazilian star Willian. Chelsea has endured multiple managerial changes in recent years but Sarri is aiming to transform the club’s fortunes with positive, attacking play and off-field harmony, an approach that is already producing results.

Elsewhere, Italian giants AC Milan host Olympiacos of Greece at the San Siro Stadium, and Arsenal face a long distance trek to Azerbaijan champions, Qarabag.
