Deadly Kerala floods

By Duncan Mil

August 21, 2018 - Although the monsoon rains in India’s flood-stricken state of Kerala have eased, more than 200,000 people in relief camps now face the risk of disease.

Twelve days of incessant rains have left at least 186 people dead in Kerala state. Between June 1 and August 19, Kerala received 235cm of rain, 42 percent more than normal. During August alone the increase was 164 percent above normal.

Rescue teams are focused on the town of Chengannur on the Pamba River, where some 5,000 people are feared to be trapped.
