UK to unveil “Tempest” fighter jet model

By Mike Tyler

July 16, 2018 - A model of the UK’s planned new fighter aircraft, the Tempest, has been unveiled at the Farnborough Air Show. The sixth generation jet will eventually replace the Eurofighter Typhoon and could be flying by 2035.

The full-size model was unveiled by UK Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson, who said the jet could be used with either pilots or as a drone.

The move is a bid to show the nation wants to remain a so-called Tier One military power after Brexit, according to a Bloomberg report.

Mr Williamson said the UK would be investing £2 billion ($2.65 billion) to oversee the design and build of the aircraft, which could be operational in 2035.
