Uber to rent scooters through its app

By Ninian Carter

July 11, 2018 - Startup electric scooter company Lime is aligning with Uber in a multi-million dollar deal to expand its unconventional mode of transportation.

Uber’s investment is part of a $335 million fund-raising round to help Lime expand and develop new products. Uber will add Lime motorized scooters to the Uber mobile app.

The Lime investment follows Uber’s purchase of Jump Bikes, which rents electric bicycles in a half-dozen cities in the United States.

Rachael Holt, an Uber vice president, said in a statement that “Our investment and partnership in Lime is another step towards our vision of becoming a one-stop shop for all your transportation needs”.
