RESCUE MISSION

T-Junction “crisis” point looms near end of Thai cave rescue

By Jordi Bou

July 9, 2018 - A tiny passageway near the “T-Junction” is the main crisis point facing the remaining boys and their football coach near the end of their treacherous escape bid from a flooded cave in Thailand.

The sliver of space, 38cm-wide, is 1.9km from the rock shelf where
the group took shelter on June 23 after heavy rains caused flooding.

Each boys is being led by two divers as they wind 4km through pitch darkness, trudge through thick mud, clamber over slippery jagged rocks and dive through narrow passageways swirling with cold, strong currents.

A team of 90 expert divers -- 40 from Thailand and 50 from overseas -- are working in the cave system.
