Death toll from Japan floods rises

By Duncan Mil

July 9, 2018 - The death toll from torrential rains that unleashed floods and landslides in western Japan has risen to at least 112. Fatalities have been reported in a dozen prefectures, many of them in the Hiroshima area.

Floodwaters forced several million people from their homes, NHK public television reported. More than 2,000 people were rescued from the hard-hit city of Kurashiki in Okayama prefecture.

NHK said Monday that more rain is set to hit some areas for at least another day.
