Indian Premier League 2018

By Chris Dinsdale

April 7, 2018 - May 27, 2018 - The Indian Premier League season begins with the Chennai Super Kings taking on defending champions, the Mumbai Indians. A total of 56 matches are due to be played, with the final taking place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 27.

The Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals both make their return to the IPL after serving a two-year suspension for the involvement of some of their personnel in the 2013 IPL betting case.

The Decision Review System (DRS) will make its IPL debut in 2018. DRS is a technology-based system whereby on-field umpires can consult with the third umpire to assist their decision-making (known as an Umpire Review). It also allows players to request the third umpire to consider a decision of the on-field umpires (known as a Player Review).

DRS uses television replays, technology that tracks the path of the ball and predicts what it would have done, microphones to detect small sounds made as the ball hits bat or pad, and infra-red imaging to detect temperature changes as the ball hits bat or pad.
