President Trump’s first year in office

By Duncan Mil

January 19, 2018 - U.S. Republican President Donald Trump has been in office for a year. So far there is no “wall” along the U.S.-Mexican border, and Special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into potential collusion between Trump’s campaign team and Russia during the election campaign remains active.

The Iran nuclear deal still stands, as does the NAFTA trade deal and the Paris climate accord -- despite Trump’s symbolic withdrawal. The shift to renewable energy continues, and Obamacare is more popular than ever.

According to the U.S. Elections Project, 56 percent of America’s 230.6-million electorate bothered to vote for either Trump or his Democrat opponent Hillary Clinton. Of those eligible to vote, just over one in four (27.3 percent) cast a ballot for Trump. Trump won the Electoral College but lost the popular vote by 2.8 million votes.
