Tesla delivers 100,000 cars in 2017

By Duncan Mil

January 5, 2018 - Tesla delivered a record-breaking 29,870 vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2017, of which 15,200 were Model S, 13,120 Model X, but just 1,550 were the cheaper “mass-market” Model 3s ($35,000 €29,000).

On the production side, Tesla is facing bottlenecks that have forced CEO Elon Musk to dial back his own mass manufacturing goals. Musk had previously predicted that Model 3 production could be ramped up to 20,000 cars per month by December.

However, Tesla appears to have removed some bottlenecks. The company produced 793 (almost a third) of the 2,425 fourth quarter Model 3s in the last seven working days of December.

Tesla produced more vehicles than in previous quarters. It also surpassed its 100,000-vehicle goal for 2017. Tesla delivered 103,082 cars in 2017, a 36% increase over 2016.
