Rohingya Muslims killed in Myanmar

By Duncan Mil

December 14, 2017 - At least 6,700 Rohingya Muslims, including 1,200 children, were killed in the first month of a Myanmar army crackdown on rebels in Rakhine state that began in August, according to Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

Surveys by MSF of 2,434 refugee households in Bangladesh -- representing 11,426 people -- concluded that 9,425 to 13,759 Rohingya died in Myanmar between August 25 and September 24. Of these, at least 6,758 people were killed by the army.

The number is much higher than Myanmar's official figure of 400, the Myanmar military blames the violence on “terrorists” and has denied any wrongdoing.

MSF said it was “the clearest indication yet of the widespread violence” by Myanmar authorities.
