Trump’s Jerusalem embassy decision -- polls
December 11, 2017 - Polls show that more than six in 10 Americans oppose President Donald Trump’s decision to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, while white evangelicals embrace the move.
A University of Maryland Critical Issues Poll of 2,000 American adults, fielded by Nielsen Scarborough November 1-6, found that 63 percent of all Americans oppose moving the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, including 44 percent of Republicans.
The controversial decision to formally recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has clouded the visit of U.S. Vice President Mike Pence to the Middle East from Sunday.
Pence, an evangelical Christian, was scheduled to visit Bethlehem and meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, as well as meeting the Coptic Pope of Egypt. However, both announced they would refuse to meet with Pence due to the American administration’s Jerusalem decision.
