Snapshot of German public opinion

By Duncan Mil

December 5, 2017 - Germans view U.S. President Donald Trump as a more significant foreign policy challenge than leaders in Turkey, North Korea or Russia, according to a survey by the Körber Foundation.

The survey for The Berlin Pulse! is a guide to policy-makers at the Berlin Foreign Policy Forum. Top of the list of concerns are refugees with 26 percent of respondents worried about the inflows of asylum seekers.

Relations with Trump and the United States ranked second, with 19 percent describing them as a significant challenge, followed by Turkey at 17 percent, North Korea at 10 percent and Russia at 8 percent.

Many Germans were angry when President Trump pulled out of the 2015 Paris climate agreement, lambasted the international deal on Iran’s nuclear programme and criticised Germany’s contributions to the NATO military alliance.
