MQ-4C Triton prepped for service from Guam
January 1, 2018 - The U.S. is to deploy its largest unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the MQ-4C Triton, to the Pacific island of Guam for the first time, amid ongoing tension with North Korea and conflict with China over the South China Sea.
The aircraft, maritime version of the Global Hawk UAV with an altered wing to make it more able to change altitude and a new suite of sensors for the over-water role, has been described as a “tripwire” for the Navy’s growing fleet of vessel-hunting Boeing P-8A Poseidon armed maritime patrol aircraft.
