Airbus set to test self-flying taxi
December 1, 2017 -- Airbus is to test a self-piloted flying taxi as part of an effort to alleviate congestion by taking commuting to the skies. Airbus claims the vehicle, being developed by its Silicon Valley arm, will be as cheap as making a regular taxi journey.
Project Vahana intends to open up airways by developing the first certified electric, self-piloted vertical take-off, and landing (VTOL) passenger aircraft.
Airbus says that Vahana can be an air taxi, but it can also act as a cargo delivery platform, ambulance, search and rescue, mobile hospital, limousine, or even as a tool to deploy modular infrastructure in disaster sites.
