Houston hit by “catastrophic” flooding
August 28, 2017 - Houston, the capital of the U.S. oil and gas industry and the country’s fourth biggest city, continues to be hit by “catastrophic” flooding as the remnants of now-Tropical Storm Harvey have all but parked over south Texas.
The storm is inundating the region around Houston with “unprecedented” rain, according to the National Weather Service, with more than 500mm of rain expected by Friday.
The Insurance Information Institute said flood damage could match the $15 billion in flood insurance losses caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Reuters reported.
