French “falling out of love” with Macron after 100 days

By Duncan Mil

August 15, 2017 - French President Emmanuel Macron is now more unpopular than his predecessor Francois Hollande after his first 100 days in office, according to an Ifop poll for Le Figaro.

According to AFP, no French president has seen such a steep drop in popularity so early in his rule since Jacques Chirac in 1995.

France’s youngest ever president shot to power on May 7 promising to overcome France's entrenched right-left divide. Now, his unpopular labour reform programme, budget and public spending cuts have left him with just 36 percent of respondents saying they are satisfied with his performance. An embarrassing 64 percent of French adults polled by Ifop stated that they were fairly dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with his performance.

After President Hollande’s first 100 days in office, 46 percent were satisfied and 54 percent dissatisfied with his performance.
