July 9, 1877: The first ever lawn tennis championship was played at Wimbledon. The men’s singles game was won by rackets player Spencer Gore
July 10, 2016: Portugal won their first major football tournament at the Euro 2016 European Championship in Paris, beating host nation France with a single late goal

July 11, 1975: Archaeologists in China unearthed a vast army of 8,000 terracotta figures, sculpted as warriors, chariots and horses, near the ancient capital of Xian
