Maute brothers attempting to set up caliphate in the Philippines

June 12, 2017 - Islamic State is attempting to establish a “caliphate” in Mindanao led by the Maute (brothers) group. The Maute group, working with Isnilon Totoni Hapilon of Abu Sayyaf, seized Marawi City, the center of Islam on Mindanao, three weeks ago. Hapilon is the designated leader of ISIS in the Philippines.
