TERRORISM

Manchester concert attack

By Duncan Mil

May 23, 2017 - At least 22 people have been killed and almost 60 injured in a blast following a pop concert by U.S. singer Ariana Grande in the British city of Manchester. The incident is being treated as a terrorist attack.

It is the worst terror attack in the UK in more than ten years, when suicide bombers targeted the London transport network in June 2005, killing 56 people.

In March, a British-born convert to Islam ploughed a car into pedestrians on London's Westminster Bridge, killing four people before stabbing to death police officer Keith Palmer outside the Houses of Parliament.

In June 1996 two Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) members planted the UK mainland's biggest bomb since World War Two outside Manchester’s Arndale shopping centre. More than 200 people were injured, but there were no fatalities.
