Trump to make first foreign trip
May 19, 2017 - U.S. President Donald Trump makes his first foreign trip from May 19-26 with visits to Saudi Arabia, Israel, the Vatican, Belgium and Sicily. The president’s wife Melania, daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner will accompany him.
Trump’s visit to Jerusalem coincides with Jerusalem Day when Israel will celebrate 50 years since the reunification of the city under its control after the 1967 Six Day War. The visit has sparked speculation that he might follow through on his campaign promise to move the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
The Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 mandated the moving of the embassy to Jerusalem, but it allowed the president to exercise a six-month waiver on national security grounds.
The last exemption, signed by President Barack Obama in December expires at the end of May when Trump will be forced to either sign it or fulfil his campaign promise.
