How the U.S. could denuclearize North Korea by force
January 5, 2017 - The U.S. has the tools to destroy North Korea’s nuclear programme in a single, massive surprise strike, but the lack of precise intelligence means the military option is fraught with danger.
It's still a matter of debate whether North Korea could put a nuclear warhead on a missile.
North Korea's volatile leader Kim Jong Un conducted two nuclear tests in 2016, one in January, and another in September, as well as tests of both land and sea-launched missiles.
John Delury, associate professor of Chinese studies at Yonsei University in Seoul told CNN that the military option is not a viable option.
“We are way past pre-emption,” said Delury. There are few other aggressive actions available, he added. North Korea has no diplomats the U.S. could expel. “North Korea is hard to punish because it has so little to lose.”
