Pakistan recent attacks

By Duncan Mil

October 25, 2016 - So-called Islamic State on Tuesday claimed responsibility for an attack on a police academy in Quetta, in which gunmen killed at least 59 people and wounded more than 100.

In the past two years more than 550 people have been killed in eight terrorist attacks in Pakistan. The attacks have been perpetrated by both Jamaat-ur-Ahrar – a splinter group of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) – and so-called Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP).

The latest attack has been claimed by ISKP, although the Pakistan military say it was perpetrated by Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), a prominent militant group that is most known for its anti-Shiite attacks and sectarian violence.

Since July 2016, ISKP has established a secure footing Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan.
