U.S. voting system vulnerability

By Mike Tyler

October 13, 2016 - With allegations that Russia is meddling in the U.S. presidential election, there is growing concern that hackers could target vulnerable systems in a number of states, particularly so-called DRE voting machines.

In the battleground state of Pennsylvania, electronic voting machines that don’t leave behind paper trails are running on severely outdated operating systems like Windows XP, which has not been patched by Microsoft since 2014. As many as one-fifth of all votes cast in the November election could be particularly vulnerable to interference.
