U.S. strikes rebel-held Yemen

By Jordi Bou

October 13, 2016 - The U.S. Navy has launched Tomahawk missiles at three coastal radar sites in territory held by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, in retaliation for failed missile attacks on a destroyer in the Red Sea. The strikes mark the first time the U.S. has become involved militarily in the civil war between the Houthis, an indigenous Shia group with loose connections to Iran, and the Yememi government, which is backed by Saudi Arabia and other Sunni nations.
