Tesla, Jaguar are hot car companies in U.S.

By Duncan Mil

August 9, 2016 - U.S. sales of Tesla cars and Tata Motors’ Jaguar brand surged in the first seven months of this year, boosted by the electric auto maker’s Model X and Jaguar’s F-Pace, its first SUV.

Jaguar’s sales surge is due to the debut of two all-new models, the entry-level XE sedan last November and the F-Pace in May. In addition to sales of Jaguar’s luxury limousine, the XJ, the company sold 14,389 vehicles in the U.S. between January and July -- compared with less than 15,000 cars in the U.S. last year.

Tesla has continued to face a slower than expected ramp-up of production and delivery of its Model X SUV. In the second quarter Tesla said that it had shipped 14,370 cars, well under its forecast of 17,000 vehicles for the quarter. However, January to July shipments hit 19,800 units, 80 percent up on the same period last year.
