Record year for renewables

By Jordi Bou

June 1, 2016 - Developing countries spent more on renewable power than rich nations for the first time in 2015, driving the fastest ever increase in green energy.

An estimated 147.2 gigawatts (GW) of new renewable power generation was added globally in 2015, increasing capacity to 1,848.5GW, Paris-based REN21's annual renewables global status report showed.

Renewables were Europe's largest source of electricity, with green power making up 44% of total capacity by 2015, although clean energy markets are slowing across the bloc.
