World’s longest rail tunnel

June 1, 2016 - Switzerland is to officially open the world's longest railway tunnel. Spanning 57km under the Alps, the Gotthard Base Tunnel will allow trains to travel at up to 250km/h, dramatically reducing travel time across Europe.
